LEGION BASEBALL: Perkl, Brennan lead Northern Lakes in opener at Missoula tourney

MISSOULA, Mont. — Dane Perkl doubled and tripled and drove in five runs, and the Northern Lakes Mountaineers class A team built a big lead before holding on to beat the Lethbridge (Alberta) Lakers A 18U 13-10 to open play Thursday at the Missoula Mavericks tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field.
Perkl hit a two-run double in a six-run second inning for Northern Lakes (18-5), and added a three-run triple in a four-run fifth.
Ryker Brennan went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Mountaineers, who led 8-0 after 2 ½ innings.
Today, Northern Lakes is scheduled to play the Tri-County Cardinals and the Sandpoint Sasquatch 17U as tourney play continues.

COEUR d’ALENE — The visiting Mavericks hit four home runs in a win over the Lumbermen class AA team at Thorco Field.
Colter Nicolarsen homered twice for Missoula and drove in five runs, including a grand slam in the fourth inning.
Logan Strimback had two hits for Coeur d’Alene (10-14), which will play the Kalispell Lakers today in an 11 a.m. doubleheader at Harris Field in Lewiston.
