LEGION BASEBALL: Lums sweep Dillon in Lewiston

LEWISTON — Colton Nordman went 5 for 7 with an RBI as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen AA team swept the Dillon Cubs, 10-0 and 8-4 on Friday at Lewis-Clark State’s Harris Field. 

In the first game, Aven Adams struck out six and walked two in a two-hit shutout for Coeur d’Alene (12-14). He also drove in a pair of runs. 

Nordman was 3 for 4 in this game, and Jack Pierce tripled home a run. 

In the second game, Evan Huss delivered a two-run single in a five-run third inning to tie the game at 3. He scored on a single by Malcolm MacNiven, who scored on a fielders choice. 

Nordman singled in a run in the fourth, and Liam Mills had an RBI single in the sixth. 

The Lums are hoping to add a game or two prior to playing in the state tournament in Lewiston in two weeks.

LEWISTON — Timothy Howard hit a two-run single in the sixth inning of the second game to pull the visiting Cardinals within 8-4, but the Twins answered with six runs in the bottom half to finish off the Class AA North Idaho League sweep at Harris Field. 

Prairie (10-13-1, 1-3 NIL) was held to three hits in the opener, as Carson Henson of Lewis-Clark (17-7-1, 4-0) struck out nine in the five-inning shutout. 

Prairie remains in Lewiston today to play the Dillon Cubs at 11 a.m. at Harris Field.

Northern Lakes wins two more at tourney

MISSOULA, Mont. — Dane Perkl went 6 for 8 with three RBIs and five runs scored as the Northern Lakes beat the Tri-County Cardinals 20-1 and the Sandpoint Sasquatch 17U 15-7 to improve to 3-0 at the Missoula Mavericks Invitational at Lindborg-Cregg Field. 

Against Tri-County, Gage Tenney hit a two-run single in a five-run first inning for Northern Lakes (20-5). Crue Weitz and Ryker Brennan also had RBI singles in the inning for the Mountaineers.  

Nate Beardsall, who struck out seven in five innings, hit a two-run double in the third.  

Against the Sandpoint Sasquatch, Parker Byrd went 3 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Beardsall, Ethan Pecor and Titus Tenney each had RBI singles in a six-run sixth. 

Northern Lakes is scheduled to play the Gonzaga Prep AA team today at 12:45 p.m. PDT.
