One person was injured Saturday on Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road after a vehicle was struck by falling rock, authorities said.
The rock fell through the vehicle's roof as it traveled along the Rimrocks section of the alpine highway just below Logan Pass, according to Glacier Public Affairs Specialist Autumn Sifuentes.
Park rangers and an advanced life support emergency rescue team responded to the scene at about 1:40 p.m. The visitor was transported to Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell. No information was released about the extent of the person's injuries.
Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed between Logan Pass and Big Bend for about two hours during the incident response.
Multiple reports of the incident were posted on social media, including a video showing the ALERT rescue helicopter landing on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Rockfall from cliffs above the road is not uncommon. Crews placed bolts in some areas to stabilize the cliffs during road reconstruction work.
In 2019, a 14-year-old Utah girl was killed and members of her family were injured after rocks fell onto Going-to-the-Sun Road near the east side tunnel.
