Joseph Barnes, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Kalispell, on January 31. His son and sister were by his side.
Joe graduated from Great Falls High School in 1963. He served in the Navy as a signalman on the U.S.S. Henderson in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam war. After the Navy, he received his bachelor's degree from Montana State University and his master's from California State at Chico.
Joe's numerous art degrees enabled him to win several national and international awards for his artistic works, one of which is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. He worked in metal, glass, wood, silk screen prints and corporate graphic design.
Joe was extremely community minded and was involved in over ten different civic organizations.
Joe is survived by his son, Remington Barnes, his sister, Mary Lou Ferguson, nephew, Scott Slater, Coni Barnes, stepdaughter, Carrie Christiansen and granddaughters, Leighton and Sighni DePaola.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, July 18, 1:00 p.m. at the Lone Pine Visitors Center, Kalispell, MT.
