NO. 32225 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICE REGULATION BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF MONTANA In re NorthWestern Energy’s 2026 Wildfire Mitigation Balancing Account Filing Docket 2026.04.024 July 10, 2026 Notice of Application and Intervention Deadline 1. On April 1, 2026, NorthWestern Corporation d/b/a NorthWestern Energy (“NorthWestern”) filed an application (“Application”) with the Montana Public Service Commission (“Commission”) requesting approval of a rate adjustment under NorthWestern’s Wildfire Mitigation Balancing Account (“WMBA”). The WMBA tracks wildfire mitigation activity expenses and insurance costs and allows annual rate adjustments to track costs incurred above and below the base amount approved in the last general rate case. In its Application, NorthWestern seeks approval of a rate adjustment to recover $16,957,447 for amortization of previously deferred wildfire mitigation expenses, current wildfire mitigation operating and maintenance expenses above the base, and wildfire insurance expenses above the base. NorthWestern asserts that its requested adjustments would result in an increase of $1.61 or approximately 1.31% on the monthly bill of a typical residential customer using 750 kilowatt-hours per month. The increase is driven by increases in wildfire mitigation and insurance costs. 2. A copy of the filing is publicly available at the Commission’s business office, 1701 Prospect Avenue, Helena, MT 59601, and the Commission’s online REDDI portal (reddi.mt.gov) under Docket 2026.04.024. A copy may also be available at the office of the Montana Consumer Counsel (“MCC”), which represents consumer interests before the Commission, 111 North Last Chance Gulch, Suite 1B, Helena, MT 59601, (406) 444-2771. Interested persons can register on the Commission’s website to receive notice of filings in this docket. Instructions for subscribing to notices of filings are available at psc.mt.gov/reddi-help (select “Join a Docket Watchlist”). 3. The Commission invites any interested party affected by NorthWestern’s filing to intervene in this docket. To intervene, a party must file a petition to intervene with the Commission no later than July 27, 2026. A party seeking intervention must file an electronic motion using the Commission’s online REDDI portal. Filing a hard copy is not required. A party seeking intervention must also mail a copy of the motion to MCC at P.O. Box 201703, Helena, MT 59620, and to NorthWestern’s attorneys, Ann Hill and Michael Kakuk, NorthWestern Energy, 208 N Montana Ave, Suite 200, Helena, MT 59601. 4. Box 202601, Helena, MT 59620 or by email to [email protected]. Public comment may also be submitted in REDDI.
