You’ve heard the expression, “and a good time was had by all” and this time it’s true.

Last year’s Pioneer Picnic hosted by the Bonner County Historical Society and Museum was such a terrific success and so much fun that the board of directors insisted it be brought back. Starting at noon this Sunday, July 19, this event will once again transform the park into a playground of yesteryear.

“Community picnics were traditional in the 1920s, and we’re going back to that era with a fun-filled afternoon,” BCHS Executive Director Hannah Combs said. “All are welcome. Bring your friends and family. There will be old-fashioned carnival games, a dunk tank, sack races, music, a bake walk, community and history.”

Refreshments will be available to purchase or you’re welcome to pack a picnic lunch. Along with some free activities, the museum will be open. Several local “celebrities” have volunteered to participate in the dunk tank. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to see this, and you won’t want to miss trying your hand at an epic tug-of-war.

Combs explained that Bonner County Historical Society members will receive half the value of their membership back in tickets to use on carnival games and activities. And no surprise here, memberships will be available for those who haven’t signed up yet, plus they’ll get to ring the bell.

BCHS’ mission is to preserve Bonner County’s vibrant legacy by sharing its history and stories through engaging programs, exhibits, and research. In stewarding our local treasures, we spark curiosity, strengthen community bonds, and ensure our legacy thrives for future generations.

The museum’s volunteers are eager to greet you on Sunday. Look for the ones selling raffle tickets for a Festival at Sandpoint-themed raffle basket. I’ll see you there.
