MISSOULA — After a rough first three games at the Missoula Mavericks Invitational, the Sandpoint Sasquatch 17U continued to fall shy of victory in their final two outings at the tournament.
Lethbridge 15, Sandpoint 3 (5)
MISSOULA — Sandpoint rising junior Blake Bogadi notched a two-hit day while fellow SHS rising junior Daniel Holman mashed a triple, as the Sasquatch fell to the Lethbridge Lakers 18U on Saturday.
Yet again, it was a slow start that sealed Sandpoint's fate, as Lethbridge jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first two innings. Carson Resso got the start for the Sasquatch and finished the day after 1 and one-third innings, giving up eight runs on four hits and striking out two batters.
Austyn Young delivered the strongest performance on the mound, delivering two innings, giving up seven runs on five hits and striking out two. Sandpoint's pitchers were not helped by the team's six errors, which especially bit them in the second and third innings.
All the excitement for Sandpoint was delivered in the fifth, with Bogadi starting things by mashing a double to put runners at the corners with no outs. Conner Brown drove in the team's first run of the game on a groundout before Holman continued his hot streak with a triple to notch the Sasquatch's second run of the game.
A single by Trevor Tadic kept the two-out rally alive and made the game 15-3; however, the offensive momentum proved to be too little too late for the Sasquatch. A groundout from John Holman quickly ended the game, handing Sandpoint their fourth loss of the invitational.

Gonzaga Prep 15, Sandpoint 7 (5)
MISSOULA — A strong start from the Sasquatch didn't hold in their final game of the tournament, falling to Gonzaga Prep AA1 on Sunday morning.
Carson Resso singled to open the second inning, which opened the floodgates early for Sandpoint. Seeming determined to turn around the tournament, the next three Sasquatch worked walks to load the bases and drive in Resso, giving them an early lead.
Who else, but Daniel Holman, followed that up by crushing a double to left field, scoring Conner Brown and Broden Collins to push the Sandpoint advantage to 4-0 with one out. Holman would go on to score off a wild pitch, extending the lead to 5-0, by far their largest lead of the tournament.
However, the lead was short-lived. After an excellent first inning, which featured two strikeouts, Holman quickly found himself in a bases-loaded jam with one out.
Gonzaga Prep took advantage, hitting singles and working a walk en route to five runs across the second, evening the game at 5-5. Holman's day on the mound ended there after 1 and one-third innings, giving up those five runs on three hits and one strikeout.
Blake Bogadi's impressive week continued with a single that helped Sandpoint load the bases yet again in the third. A fielder's choice and groundout drove in two runs to make the game 7-5, but snuffed out much of the scoring opportunity for Sandpoint.
Despite a double from John Holman and two singles from Chase Miller and Austyn Young in the fourth, these would be the final runs scored by the Sasquatch.
Erik Hansen came into relieve Holman and delivered a fantastic third inning, striking out the first two batters and inducing a pop-up to quickly close out the third. Yet, the very next time Gonzaga Prep was at the plate, things fell apart for Sandpoint.
A combination of four singles, four walks and three errors kept Gonzaga runners moving on the basepaths without recording a single out. By the time Conner Brown rang up Ace Click for the first out, Gonzaga Prep had scored nine runs and taken their first lead 14-7. Gonzaga added another run in the fifth to close out their victory as Sandpoint fell 15-7.
The losing streak leaves the Sasquatch at 9-19-1 on the season. They are set to close out their summer season with one last tournament this week in Boise, starting on Thursday at 11 a.m. against Eagle.
