LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes wins opener at districts

LEWISTON — Ethan Pecor's two-run single in the third inning gave Northern Lakes the lead for good, and the top-seeded Mountaineers went on to beat the Moscow Blue Devils 5-2 on the first day of the Class A Area A (district) tournament Friday at Lewis-Clark State College's Harris Field. 

Pecor finished 2 for 3 for Northern Lakes (23-6). In the fifth, Pecor led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gage Tenney to make it 5-1 Mountaineers. 

Ryker Brennan struck out five in a complete-game win for Northern Lakes.  

In the first inning, Dane Perkl singled with one out and scored on a double by Grant Rigler. 

Northern Lakes will play the Lewis-Clark Cubs today at 4 p.m. The Cubs scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Orofino Maniacs 9-8. 

Orofino will face Moscow today at 1 p.m.

MOSES LAKE — Alec Finn drove in four runs, three on a third-inning double, and the Cardinals pulled away with six runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat the Blues at Big Bend Community College in their first game of the Moses Lake Finale. 

Logan Storrer hit a two-run single to highlight the six-run seventh for Prairie (12-13-1). 

Kaiden Kubo, Gavin Wienker, Grady Stinson and Jackson Schreibeis combined to strike out nine and allow four hits for the Cardinals. 

The Blues are 22-11. 

Prairie is scheduled to play the Spokane Expos 17U today at 8 a.m. and the Spokane Rawlings Tigers at 1 p.m., both at Big Bend.
