Sasquatch narrowly fall to ISB in game two of NNU Classic

NAMPA — The Sandpoint Sasquatch 17U couldn't hang onto a late lead against ISB 18U at the Northwest Nazarene University Classic on Thursday night.
Despite falling behind early, yielding two runs in the bottom of the first to ISB, Sandpoint continued to battle, finally breaking the ice in the second. A double from CJ Stoker, of Bishop Kelly High in Meridian, set up Sandpoint with a runner in scoring position. That runner was driven home thanks to two passed balls.
With the lead down to 2-1, the Sasquatch settled in for battle and eventually evened the game up in the fourth. A single from the red-hot Daniel Holman was enough to start a rally and three batters later Holman touched home to even the score at 2-2.
Sandpoint High's Holman continued his stardom at the plate for the Sasquatch, mashing a two-RBI double in the seventh to give Sandpoint their first and only lead of the game at 5-4. Holman was the only player for Sandpoint to record a multi-hit day, his second of the tournament, ending the day 2-4 with two RBIs.
ISB quickly responded with two singles and a walk to tie the game up before Tyler Russell knocked a single to left field for the walk-off victory.
Middleton High rising junior Colton Brink pitched the entire game for Sandpoint, putting together a mixed day. Brink battled throughout the day, notching several impressive innings and getting himself out of jams, but never able to take ISB's momentum from them fully. He ended the day throwing six and one-third innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits, four walks and striking out one.
Sandpoint High rising sophomore Erik Hansen contributed a solid day at the plate, going 1-2 with a single, driving in a run and working a walk against ISB.
With the loss, the Sasquatch have dropped eight of their last nine and will look to end their season on a high note in the remaining games at the NNU Classic.
Sandpoint was back in action Friday night against the IPB Spuds 18U, but the game did not finish before our print deadline. A full recap of that game and the Sasquatch's season finale on Saturday will appear in Tuesday's paper.
