A Lakers, Twins split; Loggers-A Mavs split as well

After getting held to two runs by Glacier Twins pitcher Trenton DeRose in the opener, the Kalispell A Lakers banged out 15 hits and lit up the scoreboard for a 15-5 win that gave them a split of their Legion doubleheader Sunday at Griffin Field.

Madden Carrier had three hits and drove in three runs in the second game, during which the Lakers (11-25 overall, 5-19 in league) scored five runs in the first and second innings and led 13-2 going to the fourth. 

Jacobe Sullenger had an RBI double and Carrier hit a two-run double as the Lakers went up 8-1 in the second; Luke Drier’s RBI single and a double steal made it 10-1.  

Lincoln St. Jean and Dustin Gladeau split the pitching, with St. Jean allowing three hits, four walks and two earned runs in his four innings. He fanned four and Gladeau came on to pitch two hitless frames with one walk and one unearned run.  

Gladeau also had two hits, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Carrier, Blake Paulson (three hits), and Landen Jacobsen (two hits) also scored three times. It was Jacobsen’s RBI single in the sixth that made it 15-5 and ended the game under the run rule. 

For the Twins (9-26, 4-20 in league), Tristan Libby, DeRosa and Ryder Conley had base hits. 

DeRosa was the key to the Twins’ 4-2 win in the opener, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out two. He helped his own cause by getting hit by a pitch the bases loaded in the sixth; that forced in Mason Muller with the game’s final run. 

The Twins had gone up 3-2 when Derek Juntunen’s grounder was misplayed; Conley, who’d singled with two out, scored on the play. 

Muller, the leadoff hitter, had two hits and two runs scored. 

Jacobsen hit an RBI triple and scored on Cameron Sharp’s single as the Lakers knotted the score 2-2 in the fifth. Wyatt Sharp, Jacobsen and Gladeau combined to limit the Twins to four hits but walked 10.  

The games were the final of the regular season for both teams. The West A District Tournament begins Thursday in Hamilton. Glacier will open with the Mission Valley Mariners at 7 p.m.; the A Lakers play the Cranbrook Bandits at 4 p.m. 

Loggers, A Mavs split

LIBBY — Libby’s Tanner Wolfe and Boe Miles drove in four runs each as the Loggers beat Missoula 18-8 Sunday, before three Maverick batters — U Johnson, C Schroeder and J Lambert — racked up three hits each in the second game as Missoula prevailed 11-4 in the nightcap. 

In the opener, Wolfe hit a two-run single in Libby’s three-run first inning, Bransen Holzer hit a two-run single to key a six-run third and Wolfe hit yet another two-RBI knock to put Libby up 14-8 in the fifth.  

Miles added a three-run double in the fifth that ended the game under the run rule. 

In the loss, Brody Gilmore drove in two runs and Miles scored twice.
