Douglas J. Watts passed away June 15, 2026, in Yuma, Arizona.
He was born June 26, 1939, in Kanosh, Utah, a son of the late Wilford W. Watts and Thrella Watts. His mother, Thrella, passed away from cancer when Doug was six. He was the youngest of seven children. He had two brothers and four sisters that helped raise him on their farm in Kanosh.
At a young age, he became a sharpshooter and a very good horseman. He worked hard on the family farm and was adored by everyone. He loved having fun and pulling a good prank.
He graduated from Millard High School in Fillmore, Utah. He then served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War. After that, he became a truck driver and eventually owned his own trucking company. He loved driving and seeing the country, sometimes traveling from coast to coast.
He met Sandy and her three boys in 1966 in Las Vegas, NV, where they were all living at the time. They married in 1967. He loved spending time with them, teaching them baseball (he was a coach and avid player himself). He also taught the boys to Rodeo and spent a lot of time at Lake Mead waterskiing together.
He and his wife (Sandy) had two children together and settled in Sandpoint, Idaho where they raised their son, Kyal and daughter, Kellie. They lived on a lakefront ranch, and he taught them all the things he had learned growing up. They moved away in 1986 but eventually made their way back to Sandpoint.
After retiring, Doug and Sandy spent winters in Arizona and summers by the lake in Sandpoint with family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Sandy (passed 2024), and son, Kyal Watts (passed 2015). He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Ivan and Raymon, and three sisters, Gloria, Marilyn and Wanda. Of note, Doug and his brother, Raymon both died hours apart.
He is survived by his daughter, Kellie Harcourt (Kristian) and his grandchildren, Felix and Georgie, of Australia. He is survived by stepsons Randy Ross (Anne), Bob Ross (Robyn), Brad Bryars, and many grandchildren of Sandpoint, Idaho. He is survived by his sister, ReVon Udy of Everett, Washington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Doug was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.
