Mustangs complete sweep of Range Riders

BILLINGS — The Billings Mustangs continued to put up crooked numbers and wins Sunday, shaking off an early 6-0 deficit to beat the Glacier Range Riders 13-8 in Pioneer League baseball.

The Mustangs, 6-0 this half after going 36-11 the first half, coupled 13 hits with 13 walks issued by Range Riders pitching. A bases-loaded walk to Charlie Muniz and a sacrifice fly let Billings draw even at 6-6 in the fourth inning; John McHenry tripled and scored on A.J. Shaver’s base hit to give the Mustangs the lead for good in the fifth. 

That frame ended with two more bases-loaded walks, making it 10-6. 

For Glacier, two singles and two walks set up a five-run first inning. Kyle Ashworth scored on a wild pitch and Donovan Ratfield, Carson Garner and Brock Vadenburg scored when Tommy Rover’s grounder was thrown away for an error.  

Vandenburg added an RBI single in the second inning for the Range Riders, who drew nine walks — seven in the first two innings. Jake Millan hit a solo home run and Garner had an RBI single for Glacier.  

Mustangs reliever Hudson Boncal, who came on with the bases loaded and none out in the first, allowed five walks and four hits but just one earned run over five innings. 

Boncal fanned two.  

The Range Riders (29-25 overall, 0-6 this half) start a six-game home stand with a three-game set with the Mustangs on Tuesday. First pitch at Glacier Bank Park is at 6:35 p.m.
