Politics has damaged U.S. relationship with Canada
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 3 months, 2 weeks AGO
I read a Jan. 15, 2026, story by Noah Harris, "International relations affecting local business," with some interest.
I am a proud Canadian citizen who regularly used to visit the United States and in fact did a lot of business at Jake’s Landing. That however changed when the administration, which the state of Idaho widely supported, said they were going to try and annex Canada. I have not set foot in your country since then and have tried my level best not to purchase anything made by the U.S.
Your state and community obviously support the Trump administration based on the huge sign along the highway south of Bonners Ferry.
I think you need to realize it will take more than pleading hardship to undo the damage that has been done to our relationship. The solution to this problem lies in Washington, D.C., and until that changes I will keep my business in Canada. Just thought I would let you know how I feel if you care in the least.
