It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Henriette McCracken Brumbaugh.
Henriette passed away at the age of 78 on July 9, 2026, at her home in Libby, Montana.
Henriette was born in 1948 in Shelby, Montana, and graduated from high school in Tacoma, Washington.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a youth, a decision that shaped the course of her life. She later attended Brigham Young University, where she earned a degree in elementary education. Her career took her to Libby, Montana, where she taught for 20 years. She was initially a classroom teacher for six years and left the classroom to raise her children. After all her children were in school, she returned to teaching to share her love of music as the music teacher in addition to other teaching duties at Libby Elementary School.
At work, she met the love of her life, John Howard Brumbaugh. They were married for time and all eternity on June 7, 1972, in the Cardston Alberta Temple in Cardston, Alberta. Together, John and Henriette nurtured a beautiful family, which grew to eight children, 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her family was the most important part of her life, and each family member knew of her individual love for them.
She expressed her love for her family by attending countless events, writing personalized letters, making frequent check-ins, and spending quality time with each one. Henriette loved playing card and board games, which she especially enjoyed during family gatherings. Some of her other loves included sewing, gardening, walking, assembling puzzles and spending time in nature.
Henriette’s love extended far beyond her family; she was charitable to all, constantly serving friends, strangers and her church. Henriette loved being part of the Libby congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years, she served in various roles within the congregation including: teaching classes for children, directing a regional children organization, leading the local Young Women organization, overseeing the women’s local organization, and ministering to the sick in the ward. She also found joy singing in the choir, lifting others through music.
Henriette was preceded in death by her husband, John Howard Brumbaugh Sr., and followed in death by her son, Richard.
Henriette is survived by her children: Robin (Berk) Hendricks, Lloyd (Emily) Brumbaugh, Holly (Jeremy) Thompson, Thomas (Janette) Brumbaugh, John (Liz) Brumbaugh Jr., Leslie Brumbaugh and Kelli (Mike) Duthrie. She was also survived by 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild who she was so looking forward to meeting.
We will be celebrating the life of Henriette Brumbaugh at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2056 U.S. Hwy 2 W, Libby, MT 59923.
