Jeffrey Charles Wittlake

Jeffrey Charles Wittlake, born June 26, 1964, in Denver, Colorado, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of those whose lives he touched. 

Jeff was a hardworking man whose greatest joy came from building things that would last for generations. He worked for many years at Jem Air Freight before pursuing his passion as the owner and operator of a portable sawmill for more than 20 years. Jeff took immense pride in his work, finding satisfaction in watching raw timber transform into beautiful creations where families would gather and make memories of their own.

Some of Jeff’s most cherished years were spent devoted to Barbara Amundson. Together they built a life filled with adventure, hard work and countless memories, including building their home along the Fisher River, a place that would have become a source of pride and happiness.

Jeff found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved rock collecting with his favorite niece, Les, searching for treasures and sharing stories along the way. He enjoyed gold mining, gathering around bonfires at the cabin, snowcatting through the mountains and hunting with his son. 

Those who knew Jeff will also remember his good humor and those little things that not many knew like his morning made up tunes with his coffee.

Jeff is survived by his son, Derrick Jeffrey Wittlake; his granddaughter, Ivy Emery Wittlake; his sister, Wanda Costello; and best friend and loyal companion, Fred, who all brought him great pride and happiness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Mary Wittlake. 

Jeff will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his craftsmanship and the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the homes and projects he created, the memories shared around campfires, and the family and friends who loved him deeply.

Though he will be greatly missed, the stories, laughter and memories he leaves behind will continue to bring comfort to all who knew him

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at the Lodge on Fisher River: 19 Either Way South; Libby, MT 59923.
