Red Sox sweep Libby Loggers in Legion ball

Libby’s Tanner Wolfe and Boe Miles each drove in four runs as the Loggers beat Missoula, 18-8, Sunday in American Legion baseball at Lee Gehring Field.

The Mavericks won the second game, 11-4.

In the opener, Wolfe hit a two-run single in Libby’s three-run first inning, Bransen Holzer hit a two-run single to key a six-run third and Wolfe hit yet another two-RBI knock to put Libby up 14-8 in the fifth.  

Miles added a three-run double in the fifth that ended the game under the run rule. 

In the loss, Brody Gilmore drove in two runs and Miles scored twice. 

The Loggers (13-18) will be in Hamilton Thursday for the district tourney. They'll begin play at 1 p.m. against Missoula (16-20). A Loggers win will mean a 7 p.m. game against Bitterroot Friday. A loss would drop the Loggers into the loser's bracket and a 10 a.m. game Saturday against the loser of the game 5.

SATURDAY

Cash Lawrence had four hits and drove in three runs in a doubleheader sweep for the Bitterroot Red Sox Saturday over the Libby Loggers in Legion baseball.

Lawrence drove in two runs in the opening 10-4 victory, while plating one in the 17-5 game two decision. The second game ended in five innings as the Loggers used six different pitchers. The Red Sox scored multiple runs in every inning.

Bransen Holzer drove in a pair of runs for the Loggers in the first game with a double. 

Loggers pitcher Dalton Cannon kept Libby in the game after throwing six innings. Libby trailed 5-3 at the time.

Hunter Rooney had three RBIs in the second game for Libby. 

Jude Widmer plated three for the Red Sox in game two while also tossing two innings on the mound. 

Bitterroot moved to 33-2 overall with the wins. Libby fell to 12-18.

Notes: The Red Sox head coach was kicked out of the second game.
