Matyus McLain, Washington State Football 

The pride of Priest River Lamana High, McLain transferred to Washington State after two years at the University of Idaho. As the Cougs enter a new era of the Pac-12 conference, McLain was named to the preseason All-Conference third team by Phil Steele Magazine and Athlon Sports.  

The dominant defensive lineman showed out for the Vandals in 2025, recording 42 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks. McLain also forced a fumble at his future home of GESA Field, where he jarred the ball loose from Wazzu running back Angel Johnson. The Cougars will open their season against their rival Washington Huskies on Sept. 6 in Seattle. 

Braylyn Bayer, Weber State Golf 

Accompanied by her father, Bayer had an opening day for the ages on Monday, shooting a 1-under-par 71 to win medalist honors at the 120th Utah State Women's Amateur. The Weber State golfer notched a victory over several current and former BYU golfers, who have won the event in the past.  

For her efforts, Bayer, now the No. 1 seed in the tournament, was matched up against BYU golfer Ava Schroeder, who hails from Twin Falls, ID, on Tuesday. Despite remaining tied with Schroeder after nine holes, Schroeder narrowly edged out Bayer in the round of 32 matchup by two strokes. 

In addition to her excellence on the course, Bayer earned Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors. To earn those honors, a student must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average while completing their season at the Big Sky Conference school. Bayer, a Business Administration major, was one of six players on the Weber State women's golf team to earn the honor. 

Colin Roos, Lamar University Baseball 

The former Sandpoint High star is headed to the Division 1 level next season as Roos announced his commitment to Lamar University on Tuesday. Located in Beaumont, TX and playing in the Southland Conference, Lamar has become a hotbed for baseball talent. The school won the 2026 Southland Conference title and had a player selected in the 17th round of the MLB Draft 

Over the summer, Roos has been playing for the Matsu Miners in the Alaska Baseball League.  

With the Miners, the 6-foot-6 right-hander has thrown 21 innings across five appearances. In those innings, Roos has totaled a 4.29 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 22 strikeouts. His most recent start came on July 11, throwing three and two-thirds innings, giving up four earned runs off five hits and striking out three batters. 

Roos spent last season with Salt Lake Community College, where he posted a 6.14 ERA across 36 and two-thirds innings and a 5-2 record. 

Austin Dillon, Yakima Valley Community College Baseball 

Dillon found his way back to the win column for the Yakima Valley Pippins last week, dealing six shutout innings against the Portland Pickles on July 18. The Sandpoint High grad has spent the summer with the Pippins working on his game, throwing 35 innings across seven appearances. 

The Yakima Valley CC pitcher has notched 20 strikeouts across those innings, averaging five per game and has limited batters to a .267 batting average against him. Dillon currently has a 4.89 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP, only allowing two doubles and two triples against him this season.  

The Pippins' season lasts through July, ending in early August, leaving Dillon with several more opportunities to work on his game while he looks for a new home at a four-year university this fall.
