Howard Wesley Burke, 83

Howard Wesley Burke, age 83, of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away February 10, 2026, while visiting family in Palm Coast.

Born April 2, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., to Joe and Lucille Burke, Howard lived a life marked by service, curiosity and a deep appreciation for the world around him. He dedicated more than three decades to the citizens of Bonner County as a detective with the Sheriff’s Office, earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike.

Beyond his career, Howard was a man of many interests. He had an eye for beauty and wonder, finding joy in crystals, art and the treasures of nature. He loved road trips, searching for agates along the coastline and spending peaceful days at his beloved cabin in the woods. Whether exploring a new place or enjoying the quiet of the forest, Howard embraced life with a sense of adventure and appreciation.

He loved his kids and grandkids more than anything.

Howard will be remembered for his dedication to others, his independent spirit, his love of learning and the countless memories he created throughout a life well lived. His presence leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew and loved him. 

A celebration of life will take place on Labor Day, Monday September 7, 2026, from 6 to 10 a.m. beginning with a sunrise at the city beach, gathering by the Statue of Liberty with light refreshments and socializing to follow. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in honoring and remembering Howard’s life.
