Kathryn Tyner, 68

Kathryn Marie (McVay) Tyner, 68, was born July 10, 1957, to Pat and Marie McVay. She passed away July 6, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Kate was raised on a farm near Kalispell. She attended grade school in a two-room school near Lake Blaine, graduated from Flathead County High School, and graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish.

Soon after her graduation, she joined two of her sisters in Kodiak, Alaska. She taught third grade at Main Elementary for many years. During that time, she met her mailman, Steve Tyner. They married in June 1995 and built their home in Kodiak.

Kate and Steve enjoyed many years of traveling adventures. They loved exploring new places and expanding their culinary experiences. 

She is survived by her beloved husband and hero, Steve and her cat, Frank.

She also leaves behind her oldest sister, Marsha Voermans, nephew Cody Voermans, niece Holly Manning, and their families; sister and brother-in-law, Don and Verna Swanson, nephew Tyler Swanson, nephew Bradley Swanson and their families; sister-in-law Cindy Rogich, nephew TJ Rogich, nephew Greg Rogich and their families; and two brothers-in-law, Rick and David Tyner. 

Kate was preceded in death by her parents Pat and Marie McVay, her sister Chris McVay, father and mother-in-law James and Louise Tyner, brother-in-law Bill Voermans, and nephew Ryan Voermans.

Kate will be forever remembered for her sparkling personality, her quick wit, and her creativity. She was a loving wife to Steve for 31 years. She was an amazing teacher. She was our beautiful baby sister. And she was a favorite friend to so many of us. 

Her family will have a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care of Kodiak. They are the ones who provide a gift of guidance, courage and support through dark days.
