Wanda Dabney, 94

Wanda was born Nov. 11, 1931, in Mount Vernon, Ind., daughter of Frank Claude Scherretz and Florence Adeline Pfister. Wanda passed away peacefully at her son Randy’s home in Rathdrum, Idaho, in the care of Randy’s wife, Laura, and their daughter, Laureen Jillson, with the help of Hospice of North Idaho.  

Wanda graduated from high school with the class of 1950 in Mount Vernon, Ind. After graduation, Wanda moved to San Francisco, Calif., and worked as an operator for the phone company, where she met Jack B. Dabney, U.S.N. They married Sept. 8, 1950, in Alameda, Calif. Jack preceded her in death March 25, 1984.

Wanda, Jack and their two sons moved to Southern California in the 1960s, where Wanda worked for General Telephone as a supervisor and retired with Verizon around 1992. While retired, Wanda enjoyed traveling with her friend, Pat. Wanda enjoyed painting pictures of her travels and grandchildren, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as “Granny.” In 2014, Wanda moved to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, to be close to family. Wanda loved the four seasons and getting together with family.  

Wanda is survived by her two sons, Randy (Laura) Dabney of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Richard (Sharon) Dabney of Crouse, N.C.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one surviving sister, Juanita “Ludy” Multz of Covina, Calif.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Wanda requested no memorial services and wished to be cremated.
