The Appeal to Heaven prayer gathering was a phenomenal success thanks to the community coming out to participate, local organizers said.
Held Saturday, July 18, the event was originally intended as a 250th anniversary of America. However, it also quickly became a blessing to the emergency wildfire management team located inside Boundary County Middle School thanks to involvement from members of eight local churches.
"From alongside the fireman's camp at the high school, we gathered to support the firefighters who are protecting our community and those who have been evacuated and displaced," organizers said.
The community came out in force to support the event, hosting a large potluck for the administrative staff, hear updates on the fire containment status, and hear from a variety of local pastors and leaders. The event included worship dance, live band, and a lively attendance.
Idaho Rep. Cornel Rasor, R-Sandpoint, served as the event's keynote speaker.
The event is supported by several local contributors, including Skate Plaza, Accurate Northwest Auto Body, KYMS 89.9 FM and Today's Christian Country.
