Bonners Ferry well represented at Valley Summer Showdown

BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry High rising sophomore Gordon Woelfle and incoming freshman Baylor Sheets represented their school at the Valley Summer Showdown on different travel baseball teams.

Woelfle, playing for the tournament champion Flathead A's 16U, has been a reliable offensive tool during the team's summer season. In 38 at-bats this season, Woelfle has totaled 16 hits for a .429 average, 1.038 OPS and three doubles. On the mound, the Bonners Ferry star struck out 15 batters in his 10 and two-thirds innings. 

Also competing at the showdown, Sheets worked four walks and was scored twice in the tournament. Sheets also tossed 2 and one-third innings against the Libby Loggers B 18U squad, striking out two batters and allowing three runs on two hits. 

Next up for the duo and several other Bonners Ferry baseball players is the SuperDraft Tournament in Whitefish, MT, this weekend. The SuperDraft Tournament lives up to its name as every player is drafted to a team once they show up to the tournament.  

Last year, Woelfle made the final game with his team and said he's seeking redemption at this year's tournament.
