An Oregon man admitted to driving impaired when he drove his truck into an occupied house in Ronan.
Carl Raymond Bishop, 50, pleaded guilty in Polson District Court on July 9 to misdemeanor DUI and one count of felony criminal endangerment. The plea was entered as part of a plea agreement that could dismiss a second charge of criminal endangerment at sentencing.
It also tentatively calls for restitution of $50,000, but a hearing will determine an exact amount.
According to charging documents, on April 12, law enforcement responded to a report that a truck drove into a residence on Franklin St. Responding officers observed significant structural damage to the home and that the truck’s air bags were deployed.
The officer also documented a Coors Light in the center console. Bishop’s blood alcohol content was later determined to be .217, three times over the legal limit.
A witness reported seeing Bishop appear to be unsteady on his feet when he entered the truck and reported that he drove into the residence without slowing down. Two occupants of the home were in the living room at the time of the collision; one was just two feet away from where the vehicle came to rest.
Judge John A. Mercer set sentencing for Aug. 27. Bishop is at liberty.
