Polson Seniors: Busy weekend ahead with Cherry Fest

Most of the local cherries are now on the market. Cherry Festival is this weekend, as is the encore of the FLIC film festival. Lots of things to do!

Stay hydrated. Seek shade, a fan or air-conditioned spaces. Parking space may be hard to find, so share a ride.

Dues for new or renewed members for the 2026-2027 fiscal year are $15 (cheap) and are being accepted starting in August. Dues are not pro-rated.

The annual membership meeting will be on the fourth Friday of September, starting at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon. The agenda will include the end-of-year financial report, reports from committee meetings, and election of officers as presented by the nomination committee. Additional nominations may be made from the floor.

Can you help us? This is a great opportunity to build your leadership experience. Contact any officer if you wish to be nominated as a member of the board of directors or an officer. We have openings for two board members who would serve three-year terms, as well as all officers, who serve one-year terms of office.

Our community center provides space for individuals and groups to meet for physical and mental health, social and educational purposes, and may be reserved for special events on weekends and evenings.

We are open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, or later by appointment.

Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday ($5 donation; $10 without a completed MASTS form). Milk is available with all meals; delivery service is available for those who meet our guidelines.

Main dishes include Chicago-style hot dogs, July 23; birthday dinner, July 24, with baked ham with yams, scalloped spuds, grape salad and rainbow cake. Brief announcements and recognition for those having birthdays or anniversaries in July begins at 11:45 a.m.; also on tap are door prizes, entertainment, etc. Next week brings ham and rice soup, July 27; BBQ ribs and baked potatoes, July 28; Salisbury steak, July 29; chicken enchiladas, July 30; and tater-tot casserole, July 31.

Activities at the Polson Senior Center include bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays and card bingo, 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, 12:30 p.m. Monday, no pass, and Thursdays, pass four (new and old players welcome); pool table available 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily; mahjong and bridge, noon Wednesdays (looking for substitutes and regular players); exercise class (low impact and video-assisted), 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Spinning Wheelers meet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays (call 208-520-1013); and the veterans service officer visits the center from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month (walk-ins welcome).
