KIMBERLY — The players of the Sandpoint Legends are indistinguishable from the common man by day, but they're proving to be extraordinary on the pitch this summer.

The team, made up of North Idaho residents who have played soccer at a high level and connected with the Sandpoint Strikers organization, plays in exhibition matches and tournaments intermittently throughout the year. This summer, the Legends have found success, most recently at the Kimberly Julyfest tournament last weekend. 

"This is a tournament that we have been bringing adult soccer teams from Sandpoint to since the early 2000's," Daniel Anderson, Sandpoint High's Boys' Soccer head coach and a member of the Sandpoint Legends, said. "We are a group of guys that love the sport." 

At the tournament in British Columbia, Sandpoint was perfect in the 35+ Masters Division, totaling a three-win undefeated run en route to the championship. In those three games, the Legends did not allow a single goal, beating their longtime rival Montana Rapids 2-0 to put the cherry on top of the "legendary" weekend, Anderson said. 

The victory at Julyfest builds on a successful summer run for the local team. Anderson said that the team won a men's open tournament in Cranbrook, B.C., and bested the Coeur d'Alene Idahoans 9-1 in an exhibition match in June.
