Person hurt in Going-to-the-Sun Road rockfall succumbs to injuries

A person struck by rockfall on Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road earlier this month has died from their injuries.
The rock fell through the roof of a vehicle the person was riding in as it traveled along the Rimrocks section of the road just below Logan Pass on July 11. First responders took the individual to Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Glacier National Park Public Affairs Specialist Autumn Sifuentes on Thursday confirmed the death and directed further questions to the Flathead County Coroner's Office.
Requests for comment from Flathead County Sheriff and Coroner Brian Heino went unanswered.
Crews have placed bolts in some areas above Going-to-the-Sun Road to help prevent rockfall, but injuries from falling debris do occur. In 2019, a 14-year-old Utah girl was killed when rocks fell onto the road near the east side tunnel.
