Woodrow "Woody" Bruce Larson

Woodrow "Woody" Bruce Larson, 79, of Troy, Montana, died at home from a heart attack on June 14, 2026.

He was born in Minneapolis in 1947 to Woodrow and Dorothy Larson. He settled with his family in the Yaak River Valley in Montana in 1971 during the construction of the Libby Dam. 

After moving to Friday Harbor, Washington in the 1980s, he developed a passion for boats, sailing and fishing. A master carpenter, he returned to his true home and community on Seventeen Mile Creek after retirement.

Woody stayed active and engaged in living life on his own terms right up to the very end. His last days were spent planning special times with friends and family for the Fourth of July, tending to his vegetable garden, playing cribbage, working in his wood shop, playing violin, making rhubarb wine and as always, keeping tabs on current events and advocating for social justice.

His passing is mourned by many, including sisters Wendy Lane of Troy, Montana, and Gnat Wells of Dubois, Wyoming; daughters Gretchen Lentz (Scott), Emma Larson (Mattias Eineborg), and Genevieve Emmerson (Troy); and grandchildren Rowan Lentz and Hans and Elle Eineborg. 

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Heiden Lentz.
