SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man was arrested on a $400,000 bond for allegations of domestic battery.  

Daniel Rhea Shepard III, 47, is charged with a count of domestic battery and a count of attempted strangulation, both felonies. The offenses are punishable by up to 10 years and 50 years, respectively.  

First District Judge Tera Harden ordered on July 13 that Shepard be held on a $400,000 bond.  

Bonner County deputies arrested the man in Oldtown after being alerted of the incident involving Shepard and the victim.  

Court documents indicate the altercation took place at night on Saturday, July 11, where Shepard allegedly struck the victim multiple times, leaving lacerations, and allegedly attempted to strangle the individual.  

At a July 22 preliminary hearing, a request for a bond reduction was approved by Judge Justin Julian and reduced to $25,000, which Shepard posted 

He is expected to appear in court July 29 for a continued preliminary hearing, where the state will attempt to prove to the court that there is probable cause to move the case forward.
