July 28, 1976 – LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPS 

Sandpoint’s only undefeated boys baseball team this year are the Bears, who captured the Little League crown with a perfect 12-0 season. Team members are Don Kotschevar, Joe Petzak, Sam Paris Jr., Tim Hanson, Jon Pearlstein, Robbie Farmin, Sean McGovern, Steve Lindley, Hoyt Bonar, James Reuterdahl and Casey Fournier. Coaches are Bernie McGovern and Sam Paris.

YOSTS NEW OWNERS OF RED FIR RESORT 

New owners of the Red Fir Resort on the Samowen Peninsula at Hope are Bill and Kathie Yost, who took over ownership and operation of the business from Bud and Jean Momberg the first of this month. The resort will continue to offer cabins, trailer hookups, camping and tent space, as well as docks and boat rentals. Improvements the Yosts are currently considering include an expanded trailer hookup area, and possibly a new office and store facility located closer to the lake. The Yosts plan to live at the resort year round, and hope to involve winter activities in the operation of the Red Fir.

MARKS AT ROTC CAMP 

Wiley J. Marks of Sandpoint, an Army ROTC cadet at the U of I, is one of about 1,100 cadets from 49 colleges and universities attending the 1976 Army ROTC Advanced Camp at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Upon successful completion of the advanced camp, the ROTC Program and college graduation, he will be commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army.

Adair Hilligoss, band director, accompanied by Firle Selle, Joyce Nettleton, Gary Pietsch and Alva Reeves, drove to Spokane Tuesday to hear Tommy Dorsey and his dance band at Natatorium park.

COLEMAN AWARDED REDECKING JOB 

On a bid of $1090.75, Allen J. Coleman was awarded the job of redecking the Sandpoint city dock. His bid, which was far under others submitted, was for the work only; the city will furnish all the materials. The dock will be redecked with 4” plank, replacing the present rotted laminated 2x4 decking.

THREE BIG DOLLIES! 

Not all the big fish come from Lake Pend Oreille. Three big Dolly Varden trout were caught recently by E.E. Melior on a fishing trip on upper Pack river. Taken on salmon egg clusters, the fish weighed 9, 8, and 6 pounds. Melior is employed by the Spokane International [railroad] here. 

PFC SCHULZE TAKES BASIC PLANE COURSE 

Pfc. Vernon A. Schulze, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schulze, is one of several trainees in an air force training program at the New Mexico Highlands university at Las Vegas, N.M. The 15-week course in basic airplane and engine mechanics is designed to develop airplane mechanics.
