STATE LEGION BASEBALL: Lums finish third in AA

LEWISTON — With its back to the wall in four straight loser-out games, Coeur d'Alene answered the challenge in the state class AA tournament in Lewiston. 

With a spot in the championship game in the balance, the Lumbermen came up short, falling to the Idaho Falls Bandits 7-6 at Harris Field on Monday. 

Coeur d'Alene (16-16) finished third in the tournament.

Lewis-Clark beat Idaho Falls 2-1 in the championship game to advance to the Northwest Regional Tournament Aug. 5-9 in Medford, Ore. 

Jack Pierce gave Coeur d'Alene a 4-0 lead with a two-run single in the top of the fourth inning. The Lums extended the advantage to 6-0 on an RBI single by Logan Strimback. 

Cole Croft tied the game at 6-6 with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh, then Makai Ferguson hit a walk-off single for the win.

LEWISTON – Coeur d’Alene’s Jack Pierce came around to score on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt at second base as the Lumbermen rallied to beat the Twin Falls Cowboys 5-4 in a loser-out game in the state class AA tournament at Harris Field on Sunday.

Coeur d’Alene tied the game at 4-4 on an RBI single by Justin Fagan in the sixth inning, scoring Rylan Anstine.

Colton Nordman went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for Coeur d’Alene, which has won four straight loser-out games in the tournament.

Twin Falls finished 18-17.

NAMPA – The Mountaineers, who scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh in last Sunday’s class A Area A championship game, had their season come to an end at the hands of the team they beat, falling to district rival Lewis-Clark at Rodeo Park.

Gage Haines hit a sacrifice fly to score Jake Larcher in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 7-4 for Northern Lakes, which finished 27-8.

Northern Lakes finished 4-3 against Lewis-Clark this season.
