Big Mountain Run great fun despite reroute

The air was hot and dusty as 160 participants toed the start line at the 44th annual Big Mountain Run Saturday, July 25. Participants were rerouted due to logging work as they ran toward the blue sky.
Winning King of the Mountain for "Danny On reroute with East Rim add-on" was Michael Altenburg, who was visiting from Eagle, Idaho. He finished with a time of 36:30. In second was Ben Schleicher in 37:17 and third, Matthew Brewer in 38:17.
Scarlet Kaplan took Queen of the Mountain in 41:06. Kalispell’s Lauren Bissen came in second at 41:35 and Somer’s Hannah Bork took third with a time of 47:34.
Top Dog was Dan Meigs and Ashe, who received a Tailwaggers gift basket. Twenty-one athletes made the Birthday Club, finishing the course in fewer minutes than their age in years to earn a cupcake.
A record number of 180 people registered for the event, which raised funds for Glacier Nordic Club scholarships.
