Priest River High stars in Run for the Berries

PRIEST RIVER — The 47th annual Run for the Berries race kicked off the Timber Days celebrations and was dominated by Priest River Lamanna High School students on Saturday.
The runners participated in either the 5K or 10K races, with the women's 5K bringing in the most attendees with 23 finishers. Of the four races, Priest River High runners won two of them.
Priest River's Seth Paschetag took home the men's 5K with a final time of 0:19:27, which beat the next runner by almost five minutes. PR High's Daniel Gunkle won the men's 10K with a blistering 0:40:04, taking home the gold with a time nearly three minutes faster than second place.
In the women's division, Spokane Community College runner Madelyn Hutyler won the 5k race with a time of 0:19:05. Rachel Birdie Birrell prevailed in the 10K with a strong 0:50:29 finishing time.
Following the event, the runners were treated to the customary Huckleberry pancake breakfast before continuing their day of fun. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Priest River Lamanna High School Track and Field teams to help fund their season.
