July 30, 1976 – TENNIS CHAMPS CROWNED 

The Sandpoint Racquet Club’s first tennis tournament of the summer came to a close last Friday evening at the City Beach tennis courts. Mike Goebert was the A-singles winner, knocking off Mike Guilfoil 6-4, 4-6, and 6-4 for the title. Sandpoint’s Dr. Jerry Lewis claimed a share of two titles, making him the only double winner of the tourney. Lewis won the B singles class, defeating Tom Robideaux 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. He then teamed with Ted Denslow to take the men’s doubles competition with a 6-1, 6-8, 6-4 victory over Guilfoil and Rick Faylor. Other winners were Jayne Davis and Jim Parsons Jr., mixed doubles, and Maggie Lloyd, women’s singles.

SAUNDERS HEADS STATE VFW AUXILIARY 

Dorothy [Mrs. Gene] Saunders, new Idaho VFW Auxiliary president, has belonged to the Sandpoint VFW Auxiliary for 15 years, holding all offices but  treasurer. She was Sandpoint’s VFW Jr. Girls Unit advisor; all three of her daughters have been presidents of the Jr. unit. Dorothy worked her way through the chairs in the state organization before becoming president. She has two sons, Duane, at home, and Larry, who lives in Spokane with his wife and sons. Daughter JoAnne lives at home; Pattie and her husband are in Pullman; daughter Jeanne, her husband and son are stationed at Pope AFB, N.C. Her mother, Dorothy Lund, lives at Samuels.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buhr’s infant daughter, Janice Lea, was baptized Sunday at First Lutheran church.

NEW FOLDER SOON TO BE DISTRIBUTED 

A new folder featuring “Lake Pend Oreille – Kamloops and Kokanee Capital of the Nation,” now being printed in the News-Bulletin plant, will soon be ready for distribution both locally and nationally, a cooperative venture of the Chamber of Commerce, News-Bulletin and various area businesses. The folder has a map of the lake area, pictures of fishing and other recreational activities and material to aid prospective visitors in planning vacations here.

VISITED PARENTS HERE 

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dreisbach and small son of Lewiston returned to their home Sunday. They spent two weeks at the Earl Sell home in Sandpoint and with the Harry Dreisbachs at Trestle Creek.

NEWS FROM WESTMOND 

Mrs. Art Evans had a birthday dinner Sunday for her daughter, Arlene. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, Pine City, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Earnie Griggs, Clagstone; Mr. and Mrs. John Willford, Coolin; and Mrs. Fannie Swisher, Naples.  

Attending Tuesdays’ charivari of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson of Cocolalla from Westmond were Mrs. Bessie Hatcher and sons, Wayne and Lloyd, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Shalz, Mr. and Mrs. Happy Keller and daughters.
