City of Polson Fire reports busy weekend with two structure-related fires

The City of Polson Fire Department had a busy weekend, responding to 10 calls for service while also providing staffing for the department’s first aid tent during the Flathead Cherry Festival.

Among the weekend’s incidents were two structure-related fires, which included an early Sunday morning fire on the dock at Lake View Village Apartments and later a porch fire, according to the City of Polson Fire Department press release. 

Crews were dispatched to what was initially reported as a grass fire near Lakeview Chiropractic. While units were responding, the incident was upgraded to a structure fire after it was determined that a porch had caught fire. 

Upon arrival, the first fire unit found an individual using a garden hose to help keep the fire from spreading until firefighters could take over. Both fires were quickly brought under control, limiting the damage. 

Each incident is estimated to have caused approximately $5,000 to $10,000 in property damage. At this time, both fires remain under investigation and are believed to be accidental.
