Sandpoint man dies in crash on Highway 200

HOPE — A Sandpoint man died in a single-vehicle crash just west of Hope early Thursday.
According to the Idaho State Police, an 82-year-old man was driving a 2025 Jeep Compass eastbound on Highway 200 about 5:15 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and went down a steep embankment before hitting the water, where the vehicle overturned.
The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Next of kin have been notified. The highway was blocked for about three hours.
An investigation continues.
