HOPE — A Sandpoint man passed away early Thursday morning as a result of a single-vehicle crash just west of Hope, Idaho State Police said.
At approximately 5:18 a.m., ISP troopers said the 82-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was driving in a silver 2025 Jeep Compass eastbound on Highway 200 when the vehicle left the roadway, entering the eastbound ditch.
The vehicle then traveled down a steep embankment before hitting the water, where the vehicle eventually overturned. The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Next of kin have been notified. The highway was blocked for approximately 3 hours.
The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
