Port Polson Players wrap summer season with concert series

The Port Polson Players wrap up their 51st summer season with a Musical Matinee concert series honoring America’s 250th anniversary.
Concerts will be presented at 2 p.m. each Sunday through the month of August, beginning this weekend. Each show is different and will feature a new ensemble of performers offering a diverse perspective on the nation’s history.
Typically, the Players polish off their summer season with a theatrical offering. The switch to a concert series “is just a little change-up we wanted to try on the occasion of America's 250th,” says Neal Lewing, who co-produces the season with his wife, Karen.
“No other summer theatre seems to be doing anything to mark the occasion so we thought it would be fun, inspirational and educational,” he added.
With four separate perspectives on the nation's history and development, audiences can “see all four and learn something new every time," Lewing suggests.
• America on the Move, 2 p.m. Aug. 2: A glittering cast highlights this star-spangled collection of individuals and events in American history and the music that accompanied them.
• No Irish Needed, 2 p.m. Aug. 9: The Montana ShamRockers present their acclaimed musical tribute to our nation’s veterans and the Irish contributions to the building of our country.
• Ladies First, 2 p.m. Aug. 16: America’s colorful history is examined through the eyes of its women and their music in a show that helps remind the audience that women were the first to make history on many fronts.
• 2-5-0 AND THE 4-0-6, 2 p.m. Aug. 23: Montana’s place in American history comes to life as the musical duo The Red Butte Wranglers offer some of Big Sky Country’s lies, legends and laughs.
All shows play at Polson’s Theatre on the Lake. No reservations are needed and a free-will offering is appreciated.
