100 Years Ago

The forest fires continue to devastate the county. The fire in the Kootenai Canyon burned some of the railway homes. The entire equipment of the Brush Lakes Mines has been destroyed. An employee of B.F. Lumber was killed by a falling tree while fighting fire.

Dr. R.M. Bowell, chairman of the good roads committee, says they are still receiving complaints from Canadian-bound tourists who miss the turn from the Roosevelt Highway onto the Eastport Kingsgate route. Dr. Bowell said they had larger signs placed there last week.

50 Years Ago

"Probably near the best- and certainly the best attended- of all Kootenai River Days celebrations ever" was the general consensus of opinion after last week's four days of festivities here.

Organizers of the Old Time Fiddler's Contest reported that it drew more people this year than ever before.

It appears that Boundary County's doctor problems may be over for awhile. For a long time the county, with a population of more than 8,000, subsisted with only two doctors. The arrival of Dr. James Hill and Dr. Robert Crooks makes it four.

15 Years Ago

Late Friday night two hikers were reported missing in the Pyramid Lake Trout Creek area of Boundary County. They were found safe on Saturday afternoon.

A group of ladies from Bonners Ferry, and who work out at Iron Mike's, get together to run races in Northern Idaho as often as they can. The most recent race they participated in was Jacey's Race, where they finished third.

Amy Trice, former chairwoman of the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, passed away on July 21. Trice is most known for her courageous efforts in gaining justice for the Kootenai tribe.
