Donald J. Gauthier, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully July 6, 2026, with his family by his side.
Born on Feb. 18, 1939, in Wallace, Idaho, to Joseph and Genevieve Gauthier, Don grew up with a deep love for the mountains and a strong work ethic. He spent over 60 years in sales, traveling extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest. Known for his quick wit and tireless dedication, Don was deeply beloved by his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. He lived in Bellevue, Wash., for over 40 years before returning to Idaho to enjoy his retirement.
Don was a devoted husband, a loving father and a loyal friend. He spent his winters skiing and his summers on Lake Coeur d'Alene with his family. A passionate skier, he shared his love for the sport as an instructor for more than 50 years, earning recognition from the Pacific Northwest Ski Instructor Association and finally retiring well into his 80s. Many of his favorite memories with his children and grandchildren were made together on the slopes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jane; his sister, Sherie Patano; his children, Lisa (John) and Lori (Kevin); his six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Genevieve, and his son, Larry.
Don will be lovingly remembered in a private family service later this year. Yates Funeral Home was entrusted with his care and Don's online guestbook can be signed at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
