A man facing a divorce picked up a felony charge in Flathead County District Court after allegedly threatening his soon-to-be ex-wife and tampering with her vehicle in late July.  

Adam Blaine Hoffman, 37, is expected to appear before Judge Paul Sullivan on Aug. 20 for his arraignment on one count of intimidation. He remains in the county jail with bail set at $40,000. 

Hoffman showed up at the Kalispell home where his ex and their children were staying on July 21 and phoned to announce his arrival, according to court documents. His ex reminded him that she hadn't asked him over and told him she was not going to let him inside.  

But Hoffman knew the code to the garage and let himself into that structure, court documents said. His ex later told investigators with the Kalispell Police Department that she saw him tampering with her vehicle and heard him spray something near its fuel inlet. Hoffman allegedly told her that he had rigged the vehicle to explode.  

A recording of the conversation turned over to investigators allegedly captured Hoffman demanding a reason for why she was leaving him. He is also recorded allegedly saying that her vehicle would go "boom" the following day.  

During the ensuing conversation, Hoffman repeatedly threatened his ex, according to court documents. He also threatened to force his way into the home, either by driving his truck through it or kicking down the door, according to court documents.  

"I will get you before anybody gets here to save you," he allegedly told her.  

She told investigators that Hoffman was upset because he wanted to see their children, who were sleeping. Hoffman's ex described him as a gunowner who is routinely armed with a handgun, court documents said.  

She believed him capable of following through on his threats.  

Felony intimidation is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and a $50,000 fine.
