Thornton wins 

Senior Oregon Open

PGA Professional Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Wash., shot an 18-under-par 198 the Senior Oregon Open on Thursday at Wildhorse Resort in Pendleton, Ore.

PGA Professional Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club in Blaine, Wash., was second with a 202 and PGA Professional Ryan Maltby of Kalispell, Mont., third with a 203.

Kelly DeShaw of Post Falls finished tied for 11th with a 215. Darin Vaughan of Cobra/Puma Golf was tied for 17th with a 219.

Spokane Chiefs sign 

forward Tománek

The Spokane Chiefs announced that 2008-born forward Matěj Tománek signed a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement with the team. 

The 5-foot-8 forward was selected 36th overall in the first round of the 2026 CHL Import Draft. 

 "We are excited to welcome Matej and his family to the Spokane Chiefs organization," Spokane general manager Matt Bardsley said. "Tománek is an exciting forward who plays with consistent and relentless energy every shift.  His speed, along with his ability to make plays or finish, makes him a difficult player to defend. He finished second on his U20 team in scoring and was a key contributor for his U18 national team this year as well which included a very strong World’s U18 tournament”. 

 Tománek was one of two players under the age of 18 to finish in the Top 30 in scoring in the Czechia U20 league. He scored 70 points, including 30 goals and 40 assists, on the HC Plzen U17 team in 2024-25 and 43 points in 40 games for the HC Plzen U20 team in 2025-26. He also played for Team Czechia at the 2025 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup and tallied three goals and three assists in seven games at the 2026 U18 Men’s World Championships. Born on September 20, 2008, he will be eligible for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
