COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Sherrill posts runner-up finish at U23 Greco-Roman National Championships

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. Shane Sherrill, Doane University Wrestling
A 2024 graduate of Sandpoint High, Shane, a sophomore representing Tiger Wrestling Club, won three matches and earned All-American honors with his runner-up finish at the U23 Greco-Roman National Championships held May 29-31 at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Wrestling at 63 kilograms (138.9 pounds), the former Bulldog standout defeated Marciellos Coste of Letart, W.V. via an 11-3 technical in the round of 16; Colin Higgins of Fort Washington, Pa. (currently at Millersville University) via a 12-3 technical fall in the quarterfinals; and Brady Baker of St. Joseph, Mich. (currently at Pittsburgh University) via a 9-0 technical fall in the semifinals before falling to Pierson Manville of State College, Pa. (currently at Arizona State University) in the championship bout.
Ivy Smith, University of Idaho Track & Field
A 2024 graduate of Sandpoint High, Ivy, a redshirt freshman, was recently named to the Dean's List for the 2026 spring semester at the University of Idaho. In order to achieve this honor, students must have a 3.5 grade point average of higher while completing a minimum of 12 graded credits. According to the University of Idaho Sports Information Department, Smith achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.
Asher Williams, Montana Tech University Basketball
A 2025 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Asher, a freshman, was recently named to the Chancellor's List at Montana Tech University for the 2026 spring semester. In order to achieve this honor, students must have a 4.0 grade point average while completing a minimum of 12 graded credits.
Taylor Mire, Lewis-Clark State College Golf
A 2025 graduate of Sandpoint High, Taylor, a freshman, was recently named to the Dean's List at Lewis-Clark State College for the 2026 spring semester. In order to achieve this honor, students must have a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.749 while taking at least 12 graded credits in 100-level classes or above.
Connor Alexander, Lewis-Clark State College Track & Field
A 2022 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Connor, a senior, was recently named to the President's List at Lewis-Clark State College for the 2026 spring semester. In order to achieve this honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher while taking at least 12 graded credits in 100-level classes or above.
Camille Ussher, Lewis-Clark State College Track & Field
A 2022 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Camille, a senior, was recently named to the President's List at Lewis-Clark State College for the 2026 spring semester.
