KOOTENAI — A local family was left without a home Tuesday evening after a fire destroyed a Kootenai residence.

The fire, which was reported at 7:37 p.m., saw a response from Northside Fire, along with assistance from partner agencies Selkirk Fire, Rescue & EMS, Sandpoint Fire Department, Sam Owen Fire Department and Timberlake Fire Protection District.

Approximately 12 hours after the first call, the incident transitioned to patrol status, and all responding crews were released from the scene.

Northside Fire officials reported crews got the fire under control at 11:23 p.m., with a crew remaining on scene overnight to continue the overhaul process and monitor the fire for any possible rekindling. Officials noted the overhaul process was “far more extensive than what they normally face on a structure fire.”

The fire was contained at the site of origin, with no injuries to fire personnel or civilians. The incident is being investigated by the state of Idaho, with a cause not yet determined.
