Valerie Mae Cheyne, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away Nov. 25, 2025, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength and unconditional love. Valerie was born Oct. 8, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Anthony and Shirley Renteria. She grew up in Philadelphia and Medford, N.J., alongside her three sisters, and carried her strong family roots with her throughout her life.

At 19 years old, Valerie bravely moved across the country to Newport, Wash., where she began raising her family. After Newport, she continued to raise her three children in New Jersey alongside her sisters before settling in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1993, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Valerie devoted many years to raising her children before building a successful 30-year career as a mortgage loan officer. Outside of her family, her greatest passions were her faith in Jesus, praying, gardening, flowers, chickens and her big, beautiful dog, Dozer. She created a warm and welcoming home where countless memories were made with family and friends. She hosted family dinners, holidays, birthdays and gatherings that brought everyone together.

Valerie was also known for having a quirky sense of humor, which she lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. She was always there with love, strength, wisdom and a listening ear. She overcame so much in life and was the strongest woman her family knew. Valerie’s love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Valerie is survived by her three children, Autumn, Melissa and Jason; her 10 grandchildren, Michael, Christian, Jacob, Reese, Emma, Matthew, Joshua, Jude, Liam and Ameera; her sisters, Debbie and Shirley; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Shirley, and her sister, Connie.

A celebration of life will be held June 28, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Stella’s on the Hill, 4176 E. Potlatch Hill Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.
