June 4, 1976 – MEETINGS & NOTICES 

A bicycle workshop will be held June 7-12 for 9 & 10 year olds at the SHS Parking Lot, on bicycle safety as well as bike inspections and riding activities. The workshop is from 1- 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with a bike rodeo Saturday at 1 p.m.  If interested, please call the County Extension office. 

The Actors and Playwrights Theatre will hold tryouts for the Wonderful Wizard of Oz Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Old Fairground Building [Lakeview Park]. All children and adults welcome.  

Girl Scout Day Camp will be held June 14 – 18 at Camp Stidwell on Mirror Lake. Charge for the week is $4.00 per girl. Registration must be sent to Mrs. Charlotte Palmer by June 7th. The camp will run daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with transportation leaving the Jr. High School each morning at 8:15. For further information contact Mrs. Sandy Klug.

INSPIRATIONAL ATHLETES 

The names of Dale Reed and Patti Bennett will be inscribed on the Preston Mikesell Inspirational Athletes Trophy as the most outstanding male and female athletes of the year, as voted by Sandpoint Junior High School students. Reed was a starting quarterback on one of two ninth-grade football teams and played on the frosh basketball team. Bennett’s star shone state-wide as the 9th grader placed third in the state A-1 track meet in Boise.

June 4, 1951 – COCOLALLA NEWS 

Eighth grade commencement for the Cocolalla, Granite, Careywood and Westmond schools was Thursday at the Cocolalla church. Graduates were Shirley Cooper, Sue Gravelle, Glen Weatherly and Herman Crosswhite of Careywood; Wilma Morrison, George Hall, Telva Stone, Howard Doherty and Bill Hutzler of Cocolalla; Irving Shearer, Clarence Bolkcom, Joanne Harbison and David Harbison, Granite; Colene Martens and Doreen James of Westmond. Class motto: “Well begun is half done.”  

Zelda Stone and Bob Pratt received their high school diplomas at the commencement exercises May 21, in the [Sandpoint] high school auditorium.

NEWS FROM COLBURN by Bertha Boylan 

Eighth grade graduation was Wednesday at the schoolhouse. The class slogan was “Don’t Worry Don’t Fret. We’ll Get Through Yet.” Graduates were Emanuel Etter, Lee Boylan, Earl Carrithers, Kenneth Boylan, Neil Brenner, Carol LaSalle and Marlene Drier. North Star school joined the ceremony with Barbara Jones as their graduate.

With perfect attendance for the school term in Mrs. Zastrow’s upper room were Emanuel Etter, James Etter and Jerry Pederson; in Mrs. Kluckhohn’s lower grades, Curtis Stradley, Wesley Stradley and Allen Owens had perfect attendance.  

Ann Nettlingham, Luella Oliver, Hellen Elli, Laura Whitehead, Yvonne Alley and Ralph Chicks, who graduated from the Sandpoint high school, did all their eighth grade work in the Colburn school.
