On June 8, the Community Assistance League will be handing checks totaling more than $150,000 to nearly 40 deserving, local, nonprofit organizations — all recipients of this year’s grants.
CAL members said each organization provides a significant service to local citizens, whether in easing lives of families who struggle, lending support to those who are ailing, opening doors to new skills for children, or enriching lives through the arts and nature or more.
"Collectively, they make our community better," CAL officials said in a press release.
Receiving grants are: Arts Alliance/Creations, Bonner Community Food Bank, Bonner Homeless Transitions, Bonner Partners in Care, Bonner Soil & Water Conservation, Clark Fork-Hope Area Seniors, Community Cancer Services, Dover Historical Committee, Festival at Sandpoint, Food for Our Children, Friends of the WaterLife Discovery Center, Helping Hands Healing Hearts, Hope Elementary School, Memorial Community Center, Mighty Monarch Conservation Group, Music Bridges Borders, Music Conservatory, NAMI Far North Idaho, Panhandle Community Radio, Panhandle Special Needs, Panida Theater, POAC-Kaleidoscope & Ovations, Ponderay Police Department, Sagle Fire District, Sandpoint Area Seniors, Sandpoint High School, Sandpoint Nordic Club, Sandpoint Trailblazers Mountain Bike Team, Sandpoint Youth Center, Selkirk Conservation Alliance, Selkirk Outdoor Leadership, Southside Elementary School, UCAN, and VFW Post 2453.
"We at CAL are honored to be able to support all your hard work," CAL officials said.
CAL has been dedicated to improving the lives of Bonner County residents through philanthropy for more than 40 years. While personal monetary donations are always welcome, most of the funds given out by CAL come from proceeds of its shop, Bizarre Bazaar. This upscale resale store, located at 114 S. Boyer Ave. is successful because of a unique three-way partnership: the CAL volunteers who run the store; the community that shops there; and the community which donates gently used goods.
"These grants are truly a gift from the Bonner community to the Bonner community," CAL officials said. "Donations and shoppers have made it possible. Together, we are all making a difference. "
