2026 marks America’s 250th birthday and this year also marks the 48th season of Libby's The Heritage Museum.

Saturday, June 6, both will be celebrated at the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring the family and enjoy presentations, performances and demonstrations throughout the day.

Schedule of events

In the Museum’s Beebe Room:

10:30 a.m. – Retired History teacher, Jim May, will chronicle America’s 250 years by highlighting significant events through its history from more recent times back to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

11:30 a.m. – Mary Jane Bradbury will portray Jeannette Rankin. Humanitarian, pacifist and tireless advocate for social reform, Jeannette Rankin was the first woman elected to U.S. Congress and the only member of Congress to vote against U.S. entry into both world wars.

Bradbury, as Jeannette, discusses her journey from grassroots suffragist to being the first woman to participate in the United State government. This project was made possible by a grant from Humanities Montana.

12:30 p.m. – Members of the Libby Children’s Select Choir will perform songs from their recent competition in Idaho.

Inside and outside the museum:

Numerous vendors will be outside among the trees with a variety of items for sale.

Have lunch in the historic Sylvanite Cookhouse, which will feature our delicious grilled burgers and pie donated by some of Libby’s best bakers!

Tour the museum grounds in a 1932 fire truck from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vintage equipment demonstrations in the yard from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Vintage & Collectible sale by Friends of The Heritage Museum will be held in the Swamp Creek Community Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Shay Locomotive Restoration Project.

Currently, and continuing through June 30, the Tower Gallery has a display of quilts courtesy of the Kootenai Valley Quilt Guild. Some are offered for sale. The gallery will have changing exhibits of photography and artwork through the remaining summer months.

The Heritage Museum will be open for the season through Sept. 12, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A donation for admission is appreciated.

The Heritage Museum is a nonprofit corporation and relies on donations to continue its mission to collect, preserve, protect and interpret the history of Lincoln County for education, research, cultural enrichment and recreation for local residents and visitors of all ages.

The Heritage Museum is run entirely by volunteers.
