100 Years Ago

Mr. A. Klockmann, owner of Colony Ranch (reclaimed last year as Drainage Dist. #5), is hoping to utilize the unharnessed water power of the Kootenai Valley in the operation of all farm machinery and to furnish light and power to every home. All that is necessary is to raise a little money to purchase a used power plant and transmission lines.

According to the Dept. of Agriculture, Americans are eating less bread now. The use of flour dropped 24% in fifty years. The decline has been more rapid since the war. Bread is available at K.V. Produce for 3 loaves for 25 cents, and flour is available at Piggly Wiggly at 49 pounds for $1.88.

The market value of all agricultural products sold by the 263 farms in Boundary County in 1974 amounted t $6,037,000 according to a preliminary report of the 1974 Census of Agriculture.

Les Howard, for many years the Enco- then Exxon - oil and gas delivery man, has a new hat this week. Howard has accepted a job as salesman at Bonners Ferry Datsun.

Lonnie Jelinek, an up and coming trap shooter with the Bonners Ferry Gun club, jumped into the big time over the Memorial Day weekend and won the Idaho State Trapshooting Handicap Championship at Lewiston.

The newest private pilot at Northern Air is Dave Parker's son, Jordan. Dave Peterson completed his first solo flight. Dan Beachy has become the newest instrument rated pilot at Northern Air.

Bonners Ferry artist Diana Moses Botkin has been selected to create the original artwork for the 2011 Festival at Sandpoint fine art poster.

Lions Club Kids Fishing Day is this Saturday at the Lions Club pond. Bring your own fishing gear. Free hot dogs and pop for the kids.
