Valley Bank, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB), is making a lasting difference across Western Montana by awarding impact grant funding to seven local nonprofit and community organizations.

Each recipient received $8,574 in grant funds through the program, made possible by Valley Bank contributing $2,500 per organization and FHLB matching those contributions at a 2.43-to-1 rate. The partnership significantly expanded the reach of local dollars, creating more opportunities for organizations working to strengthen housing, youth programs, healthcare access, and economic development throughout the region.

Grant recipients included Arlee Community Development Corporation,  Mission West Community Development Partners, Lake County Community Housing, Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation, Friends of the Children Montana, St. Luke Community Healthcare Foundation, and Sanders County Community Housing Organization.

According to a press release, funding will support a wide range of community-driven initiatives that directly impact families and individuals across the area. From affordable housing and economic development efforts to youth mentorship and healthcare services, the grants reflect the broad and meaningful role local organizations play in improving the quality of life in rural Montana communities.

Valley Bank officials said the initiative highlights the unique role community banks serve beyond traditional financial services. Unlike larger institutions, community banks are deeply connected to the towns and people they serve, allowing them to identify local needs and build partnerships that generate measurable community impact. Across the community, Valley Bank employees are often volunteering and serving the community.

“Community banks are invested in the long-term success of the communities they serve,” said Brenda Dennis, Valley Bank representative. “By partnering with FHLB, we are able to amplify local investments and help organizations continue the important work they do every day.”

The collaboration demonstrates how community-focused banking relationships can create ripple effects far beyond financial transactions. By leveraging partnerships and federal resources, community banks can help local nonprofits expand services, reach more residents, and strengthen the region's overall health and resilience.

For the recipient organizations, the grants represent more than funding—they represent confidence, collaboration and a shared commitment to building stronger communities throughout Western Montana.
