Libby athletes closed the spring season with several Top 8 finishes at the Montana High School Association Class A State Track and Field Meet, held May 28-30, at Laurel Sports Complex.
Sophomore Capri Farmer led the Lady Loggers with two third-place finishes in the ultra competitive Class A distance races. Farmer placed third in the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 00.59 seconds, then added another third-place finish in the 3,200 meters in 11:15.16.
Farmer’s time was good enough to win the 1,600 in Class AA, B and C.
Billings Central Catholic freshman Addison Kegel won the 1,600 in 4:49.30 while Polson junior Morgan Delaney was second in 4:56.24.
Farmer did drop slightly more than 13 seconds from her time in the 1,600 run in 2025 when she placed fourth.
“I was hoping to get a sub-5 minute mile, but considering how super competitive it was, I’m still happy with how things turned out,” Farmer said. “I’m also truly appreciative of coach Dan Rose and everything he’s done to really help me,” Farmer said.
Farmer claimed two state medals in the 2025 Class A championship and one in the 2024 Class A Championship when she was in eighth grade. Combined with her cross country state medals the last three years, she's won 10 state medals overall.
Farmer doesn't get much time off from running, not that she'd want to, but she'll be competing in the Nike Outdoor Nationals at the University of Oregon June 18-22.
In 2025 at the Nike Outdoor Nationals, Farmer was 11th in the freshman field of the 1,600-meter run and 1-mile run and ninth in the 1500.
On the boys side, senior Tristan Andersen capped a great Logger career with two top-five finishes in the field events. Andersen placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 165 feet, 4 inches, and tied for fifth in the high jump at 6-2.
Andersen claimed six career state medals in Class A competition.
While his overall goal of winning the state title in javelin eluded him, he was still pleased with his performance in the high jump. Andersen battled with back issues late in the season. He said he didn't want to make excuses, but after throwing a personal best of 179 feet, 10 inches at the Libby Track and Field Invitational on April 18, the back troubles clearly had an impact.
"Javelin was not a great day, but tying my personal best in the high jump at state felt really good," Andersen said. "It also feels good to six medals overall; it validates all the work I put in my sports."
Andersen is going to study pre-med at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. He'll compete in track and field and his coach there wants him to compete in the decathlon. He hasn't committed to that endeavor yet, but he's looking forward to joining his older brother Tyler at Whitworth.
"We also have family living there, so I'm looking forward to new experiences with that support," Andersen said.
Junior Cody Watson also scored a strong distance double for Libby. Watson placed seventh in the boys 1,600 meters with a personal-best time of 4:30.13 and followed with a seventh-place finish in the 3,200 meters in 10:13.25.
Libby also had three entries in the boys pole vault. Junior Bridger Moe tied for 12th at 11-6, senior Gabe Kosters placed 16th at 11-6, and senior Urijah Bache finished 19th at 11-0.
In the girls sprint events, junior Hailey Misner finished ninth in the 400 meters in 1:01.71. She also placed 12th in the 200-meter preliminaries with a personal-best time of 26.85.
The Lady Loggers’ 4x400 relay team of Misner, sophomore Evalyn Cliff, freshman Ava Jensen and Farmer placed 16th in 4:19.36. The Libby boys 4x400 relay team of junior Ledger Fortner, junior Colter Anderson, senior Gabe Kosters and Watson finished 21st in 3:42.42.
Sophomore Alyssa Andersen rounded out Libby’s state results in the girls javelin, placing 19th with a throw of 95-10.
